Taxpayers should be aware that the IRS will be closing its Cincinnati and Hartford mailing addresses on July 1. This is especially important for those individuals planning to send extensions or estimated payments. Returns and payments sent to Cincinnati and Hartford after that date will be returned to the sender with no forwarding service available. The IRS has not yet identified and reported the new mailing address.
As an alternative to mailing payments, the agency is encouraging taxpayers to make arrangements online through IRS Direct Pay. This applies specifically to those who file Form 1040 and related returns. In the meantime, taxpayers should also check “Where to File” on irs.gov before mailing a payment to the IRS on or after July 1.
